Taylor Russell McKenzie, who was born in Vancouver on July 18, 1994, was raised in Toronto and Vancouver. [1][2] Russell, who was born to the black father and white mother, is biracial and grew up primarily with her mother's side of the family. Russell said that her skin color was the primary reason for her feeling rejected by her peers as growing up. Her parents were struggling financially and were forced to move sixteen times in order to take on her father's work. Russell admitted that, despite the struggles, there was always the possibility to reinvent and make something completely new. Russell's parents struggled financially and she was always moving. When she turned 18, she took her first acting class, and finally found her place. She took money from her job to purchase an automobile and travel to Los Angeles to audition. When her funds ran out, she would go back to work until she earned enough money to attend another audition. This process continued for four years, until she got her first major TV appearance.
